Making a Living in Spiritual Work

​Whether part-time or full-time, working a spiritual business has a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Let’s come together and support each other as we develop, expand, transform, or renew our spiritual businesses.

This group is designed as a discussion and accountability group to make our way through an anthology of workshops through Spiritual Directors International (SDI). The SDI program is called Making a Living as a Spiritual Director. There are 14 sessions, each around 1-1.5 hours long. Each week that we meet, we will focus our discussion around one of the sessions.

Program Objectives and Outcomes: Mutual support for spiritual business growth.

​Required watching: ‘Making a Living Anthology’ from SDI (available for $99 for SDI members, for 18 hours of content, lifetime access to the videos)

Supplemental reading: Grow Your Spiritual Business: How to Build a Business in the Internet Age, Cindy Griffith and Lisa K PhD (2015); Finding Seekers: How to Develop a Spiritual Direction Practice from Beginning to Full-time Employment, Bruce Tallman (2011).

​Who will benefit from this program? Anyone with a spiritual vocation who is self-employed to some extent, including ministers, spiritual directors / companions / mentors, energy workers, wedding and funeral officiants, etc. All are welcome.

Day/Time: Weekly Tuesdays, 7-8pm ET
Cost: ​ $20 for the course; come as often as you can through the summer. (Does not include the program cost through SDI.)

About the presenter: Rev. Carrie Ives has been self-employed in spiritual work since her ordination in 2013. She knows herself well enough to recognize that working through 14 sessions without any accountability is unlikely to happen - hence, the creation of this group. Her current business focus is in transition from ‘general’ spiritual direction to spiritual companioning for those with chronic illness, in groups and in focused, short-term individual programs.
